ロッテルダムで「2016 MTV EMA (Europe Music Awards)」という欧州最大級の音楽授賞式が開催され、ジャスティン・ビーバーが三冠を獲得したそうです。

Pop superstar Justin Bieber pipped Lady Gaga at the MTV Europe Music awards on Sunday, snapping up the lion’s share as megastar Beyonce came away empty-handed.
In the high-energy show in the Dutch port of Rotterdam, the chart-topping Canadian singer’s legendary army of fans dubbed “Beliebers” helped him slay Gaga’s “monsters” to help him win three awards including for Biggest Fans.
“lion’s share”を取りあげます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「一番大きい分け前」という意味がありました。もともとイソップ寓話の一つでライオンが獲物の大半を独り占めしようとしたことから由来しているそうです。LDOCEでは“the largest part of something”と定義されています。また調べた際に“lion's den”という別のイディオムを発見しました。こちらは「ライオンの巣、危ない場所」という意味で“I am going to the lion's den.”で「これから敵地に乗り込む」というように使うことができるとわかりました。(lua)
