‘Miss Saigon’ adds new colors as star departs

The musical “Miss Saigon” has returned to Tokyo for the first time in two years.

There is much to talk about regarding the cast for the latest production. For one, Masachika Ichimura, 67, is bidding farewell to the key role of the Engineer, which he has played since the musical’s first performances in Japan in 1992.

中略

“Miss Saigon” — with book and lyrics by Alain Boublil and concept, book and music by Claude-Michel Schonberg — premiered in London in 1989. It tells the story of Vietnamese girl Kim and U.S. soldier Chris, who fall in love at a cabaret in Saigon (present-day Ho Chi Minh) during the Vietnam War. The cabaret is run by the Engineer, a hard-nosed, worldly-wise French-Vietnamese man.

Merriam-Webster.comには “very tough”, また “not influenced by emotions” と定義されています。

(Cayu)
