TOKYO — Funeral services and a tomb for Prince Mikasa, uncle of Emperor Akihito, who died Thursday at age 100, will cost an estimated 289 million yen, with the cabinet deciding Tuesday to disburse 209 million yen of the cost from the government’s reserve funds for fiscal 2016.
The remaining cost will be covered by the Imperial Household Agency’s budget for the fiscal year and by requesting funds in the budget for next fiscal year, which starts next April.

“disburse”を取りあげます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「積立金から支払う, 支出する」とありました。語源はdisで「〜から離れる、分ける」とburseはもともとpurse（財布)と同じで、財布から離れるということから、「支払う、支出する、分配する」という意味になることがわかりました。
対義語としてはreinburseとなり、「財布(burse)に再び(re)入れる(in)」で「払い戻す」というようになります。
さらに、同じ支払うという意味のpayやexpendといった単語とどのような違いかあるのか気になりました。
disburseをLDOCEで調べてみると“to pay out money, especially from a large sum that is available for a special purpose”と定義されており、pay, expendは自らが支払うのに対して「資金・財源の中から割り当てて出す」といったニュアンスがあるようです。今年度予算の予備費から支払われるということでdisburseが使われていることがわかりました。(lua)
