The Hiroshima Carp decided on Oct. 30 to retire veteran starter Hiroki Kuroda's uniform number, as he is set to retire from baseball with the end of the 2016 season.
The 41-year-old pitcher had worn number 15 since he broke in with the Carp in 1997 until he signed with Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2008 season. He again donned No. 15 when he returned to the Carp for the 2015 season at a reported 400 million yen annual salary, after rejecting an apparently much richer offer from the New York Yankees.
