The Sun reports that Katy Perry and boyfriend Orlando Bloom dressed up as the Clintons.
However other media outlets later reported that Bill Clinton was actually played by Perry’s best friend and celebrity stylist Johnny Wujek.
Instead it is suggested that Bloom was Clinton’s rival, Donald Trump.
Perry is a big supporter of Hillary and has been actively campaigning for her, including at the Democratic National Convention.
They joined the cream of Hollywood in kicking of the spooky festivities.
“the cream of Hollywood”を取り上げます。creamから濃厚で密度の高いというイメージから多くの人が集まるというような意味かと思いましたが、『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると“the cream”で「粒よりの人たち, 精選したもの」とあり、the cream of the crop で「最も優れた人, トップ中のトップ」というイディオムもありました。クリームが作物の１つとして牛乳から採れる貴重なものということから由来していることがわかりました。
反対に、“the bottom of the barrel”で樽の底という表現から「残り物」というイディオムもあることがわかりました。ここでは「映画界でも飛び抜けて活躍する人々が集まったパーティーに出席していた」という訳になるかと思います。(lua)
