少し前に書かれたものですが、日本でも使われ始めた「ティーザー動画」ということばをめぐるネット上のフォーラムからです。映画の予告映像のティーザートレーラーとトレーラーの違いは何でしょうか。
Teasers and trailers are all part of the drip-feed of information about a film in the build-up to a film’s release. It’s all designed to create awareness and a kind of excited suspense in the minds of the audience, so that when the film is finally available, they will flock to it.
That’s the theory. And sometimes it works in practice. A great recent example is the campaign for Gone Girl, which released a cryptic poster first and then a teaser and then a full trailer. Look at the campaigns for Inception, The Dark Knight and now Interstellar. They are all textbook examples of how to create awareness and desire in the audience.
In the case of our feature film ‘The Redeeming’ a psychological thriller feature film coming in 2015, we’ve got a teaser being released in a couple of weeks. We’re putting it out, because the fans who have been following us since before we started shooting are clamouring to see something from the film.
We’ll release a trailer early in the new year, which will be about 2 minutes long and will have a lot more footage from the film, along with some ideas about plot and characters.

まず「ティーザー動画」ですが，これはすでに扱われているように英語のteaserからきています。そうです，あのtease由来の単語で，お客，読者，映画ファンなどのこころをteaseする，つまり，あおる形の小出しの宣伝手法を指します。
teaserのポイントはdrip-feedです。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）では「徐々に与える、点滴をする」とあり、ハイフンがないdrip feedは「（情報などの）少量の放出；点滴」と定義されていました。
dripという単語から少しずつ液体や、ここでは映画の情報が流される様子が想像できます。
予告編であるトレーラーに比べて、重要な場面しか流さないティーザーの方は短いため、このような表現が使われていることがわかります。
ちなみに「トレーラー」という言葉は、映画本編終了後に予告編が流されていた頃に、他の車に引かれて走るトレーラーにひっかけてこう呼ばれるようになったそうです。(flyingbird)
