50km競歩で日本代表の荒井選手はカナダのエヴァン・ダンフィー選手の訴えによって一時失格となりましたが、その後の日本側の上訴により失格が取り消され、見事銅メダルを獲得しました。

They apparently changed their minds at least twice: disqualifying Arai and then bringing him back in.
Bump or no bump, Dunfee’s time set a new Canadian record. The effort cost him something though – he had to be taken off the course in a wheelchair following the race.

LDOCEで調べてみると"a short noisy argument"とありました。また、『ジーニアス英和辞典』第4版(大修館)を見てみると、「(…との)口論、激論」とありました。しかしながらここは，文脈から読みとると，ダンフィー選手と荒井選手のひじが当たった，あたらなかった（bump or no bump）という小競り合いを指していることがわかります。アルクの英辞郎にはphysical altercationで，「けんか、殴り合い」という意味も記載されていました。
競歩で日本人がメダルを獲得するのは初の快挙とのことです。(Akim)
