Prime minister to reshuffle Cabinet on Wednesday
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Friday that he will reshuffle his Cabinet on Wednesday.
Unveiling the plan during discussions with ministers after a Cabinet meeting, Abe said that he will further accelerate Abenomics and powerfully promote various policy measures under the new cabinet, after winning the public mandate in the House of Councillors election on July 10.
During the ministerial talks, Abe also said that the government will adopt a planned comprehensive economic stimulus package at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
In the Cabinet revamp, Abe plans to retain Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, both linchpins in his administration, in order to make steady progress in a host of challenges including the attainment of economic recovery.
On Wednesday, Abe, who doubles as LDP president, will also shake up the executive lineup of the party.
One focus will be whether he will retain or replace LDP Secretary General Sadakazu Tanigaki, who suffered cervical cord damage from a fall while cycling and underwent surgery earlier this month.
