Godzilla appears in Tokyo bathhouse

Godzilla's latest stomping grounds appear to be at a Tokyo bathhouse, as the finishing touches were put on an around 3-meter-tall, 12-meter-wide wall painting featuring the iconic monster on July 21.
The painting in the "Ota Kuroyu Onsen Daini Hinode Yu" bathhouse in Tokyo's Ota Ward was done by Japan's only female bathhouse picture artist, 33-year-old Mizuki Tanaka, over the course of two days. Scenes of people fleeing from the great beast were shot in the local Kamata district for the upcoming movie "Godzilla: Resurgence" (in Japanese theaters on July 29). The wall painting will be viewable from both the men's and women's baths through to the end of October.
The film's distributor, Toho Co., says this is "probably the first time" that Godzilla has been painted on a bathhouse wall. "Ota Kuroyu Onsen Daini Hinode Yu" opened for business in 1955, the year after Godzilla's debut. Junichi Tamura, president of the bathhouse company, joked, "If it's Godzilla doing it, I don't mind if the bathhouse gets destroyed."

今回取り上げる表現はstomping groundsです。
Oxford divtionaries.com.では“A place where someone regularly spends time; a favourite haunt”と定義されており、『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）では「（米略式）よく行く場所、行きつけの場所、たまり場」とありました。

stompは「踏みつける；虐待する」を意味するstampの米略式なので、英略式で表す場合は“stamping ground”と表します。他にもstampは“the stamp of”の形で「痕跡；特徴」という意味があることから、「痕跡のある土地」から「よく行く場所、たまり場」へとつながったのではないかと思いました。
