イギリス国民投票でEUからの離脱派が上回った結果となってから，1ヶ月が経とうとしておりますが，この間，イギリスの経済指標が劇的に悪化していることが示されました。悪化の根拠として使われたのはPMIと呼ばれる指標です。PMIは購買担当者指数と呼ばれ，製造業やサービス業の購買担当者を対象にアンケート調査や聞き取りなどを行い新規受注や生産高，受注残，価格，雇用，購買数量などの指数に一定のウエイトを掛けて算出する指数のことをいいます（http://www.ifinance.ne.jp/glossary/economy/eco088.html）。購買担当者が，景気が悪くなると感じていれば，購買数量を落とすと考えられるため，将来の経済状況を示す先行指標と考えられております。イギリスが離脱を表明した後，PMI指数が景気後退を示唆する50以下となっております。
記事の中で気になった表現は"in the pipeline"です。『Wisdom英和辞典第三版』(三省堂)で調べると「<計画などが> 進行中で, 準備中で」などという意味がありました。Oxford Dictionaries.comには"In the process of being planned or developed"と定義されております。今後のイギリスの経済動向が気になります。（Ume）

The figures in PMI surveys are taken seriously by economists as early warning signs of what is in the pipeline. When there is a downturn, the PMIs generally tell the same story.
So this is a troubling set of results. But it is just one month's worth. It is possible that this is a "shock-induced nadir", as the chief economist at the firm who conducted the survey put it, and that the economy will right itself in the coming months.
