Fix child safety seats firmly to prevent accidents
Many people have child safety seats installed in their cars, but, surprisingly, many of these seats have been installed incorrectly. If a child safety seat is improperly installed, a child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.
As now is a good time for families to enjoy a drive, learning the correct way to install a child safety seat is important.
In June, an event was held in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, at which Japan Automobile Federation officials checked if child safety seats had been installed properly in 55 cars and whether children were correctly strapped in.
A 30-year-old man who brought his 7-month-old son to the event was informed that the seat belt attaching the child safety seat to his car was too loose. The shoulder harness on the seat was also not properly adjusted to fit snugly across the child’s shoulders. The man made adjustments following a JAF official’s advice.

今回取り上げる単語はsnuglyです。以前取り上げた “snuggle up”と何か関係がありそうだなと思い調べてみました。
Oxford Advanced Lerner’s Dictionary (8th edition, Oxford University Press)によると、 snugで“ warm, comfortable and protected, especially from the cold”または “fitting closely”とのことでした。Snuglyはこれの副詞です。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）には、「きちんと，ぴったり」や「心地よく，暖かく，快適に」などの意味が載っておりました。
snuglyを使うことにより、子供に負担をかけない程度にフィットさせることを表しているのだと思いました。
また “snuggle (up)”や “snug”にも心地よさや寄り添うニュアンスが含まれているので、snuglyは同じ系統の単語だと思われます。（Gomez）
