MIAMI — Ichiro Suzuki moved to within 18 hits of 3,000 for his major league career when the veteran outfielder went 2-for-4 in the Miami Marlins’ 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves in 10 innings on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old Suzuki, who singled to center in the fifth inning, led off the 10th inning with an infield single.

He went to second on a walk, but was stranded when Atlanta reliever Arodys Vizcaino struck out the next three batters to end the game.

Suzuki, who also drew a walk, has reached base in the last 10 games in which he has started. In nine of those games, he got on base two or more times.
