Push for Gun Control After Orlando Shooting
“These terrorists hate us because our way of life is not compatible with their beliefs,” said Dan Zelenka, president of the Louisiana Shooting Association. “To allow the actions of a terrorist to affect the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans is an anathema.”
Anathema is a word used to say that people are strongly opposed to something.
Sales of some AR-15s and other military-style weapons were blocked by a 1994 assault weapon ban. But Congress refused to continue the law 10 years later. The National Rifle Association, which opposes most gun control legislation, asked Congress to end the assault weapon ban.

今回取り上げる単語は、law-abidingです。
Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、” obedient to the laws of society”とのことです。
次に『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館）で調べてみたところ、「法律をよく守る，法律に従う」などと載っておりました。ちなみに反対語はlaw-breakingで、「法律違反（の），違法の」とのことです。
またabide（abiding）の意味を知らなかったので、こちらも『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館）で調べてみたところ、「〈人・事〉を我慢する，とどまる」などの意味がありました。
これらをふまえ文中の“the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans ”を訳すと、「法に従っているアメリカ人が持つ、憲法で規定されている権利」のような意味になるかと思います。
