アメリカでは六月にオレオの新しいフレーバーが発売されるようです。
Oreo Just Turned Another One of Your Favorite Desserts Into a Cookie
Summer is just around the corner, which means all of your favorite snacks are getting a warm-weather upgrade. And it’s not just new Frappuccino flavors and making the switch to popsicles and ice cream cones for your sugar fix. The new season also means new Oreo flavors.
Since we already knew there are over a hundred new Oreos waiting in the wings, it should be no surprise that we’re getting two new, amazing cookies. The first, blueberry pie, sounds like an azure-hued take on this spring’s Strawberry Shortcake flavor, with a graham cookie and blueberry filling. The second, Fruity Crisp, takes its cues from the Marshmallow Crispy Creme flavor, featuring a graham cookie with a Fruity Pebble-esque rainbow crisp-flecked creme.
Both will be available starting at the beginning of June, but you won’t be able to find them just anywhere. According to Refinery29, Blueberry Pie is a Target exclusive starting June 6. Fruity Crisp will be at Wegmans, Winn Dixie and other regional stores starting June 1. So if you’re not near any of those stores, maybe it’s just the thing to ask far-flung relatives for a graduation gift.

今回気になったのはfar-flungです。
flungの原型のflingを『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）で調べると他動詞で「投げつける、ほうり投げる、勢いよく動かす、投げかける」など少し荒々しい行動を表す一方、自動詞で「突進する、飛び出す、暴言を浴びせる」という意味も確認できました。
なので「広範囲に広がる」となるかと予想しましたが、文脈的に不自然な気がします。
far-flungでは同上英和辞典に載っていなかったので、LDOCEをみると” very distant“と” spread out over a very large area“定義されていました。
今回は「遠く離れた」の意味で使われていることがわかります。
これらのことから「もし新しいフレーバーを売っているお店が近くになかったら、遠くにいる親戚に卒業祝いとして頼むとよい」となるかと思いました。(flyingbird)
