Japanese national accused of Georgia woman's murder
A 65-year-old Brunswick woman was killed in her home Sunday, according to the Brunswick Police Department.
Ohgo Tokimasa, 35, of Yokohama, Japan, has been charged with murder and auto theft in the death of Naomi Acres, police said.
According to police, officers arrived at Acres' 3rd Avenue home to conduct a welfare check and determined an assault might have taken place inside. The officers forced their way into the home and found Acres' body.
Her 2008 Prius was missing, and a BOLO was issued for the vehicle and for Tokimasa, who had recently visited Acres.
“conduct a welfare check”に注目しました。手持ちの辞書では記載がなかったので、インターネットで調べてみると、英辞郎on the webで “do a welfare check” で「生活福利チェックする(警察が市民の依頼によって、音さたがなくなった家族や友人の消息や様子などを調べること。)」とありました。
conductが使われているので「（変わったこと，異変がないか）様子を見に行く」というような意味になるかと思いました。調査をするときはconduct a surveyと表現されるので、警察官による捜査からこのような表現になっていることがわかりました。(lua)
