今回取り上げるのは、“back flip”という表現です。“flip”と聞くと「指ではじく、本をパラパラとめくる」といった意味を連想しますが、この記事ではこれらとは違った意味で用いられています。LDOCEで調べてみると、“a movement in which you jump up and turn over in the air, so that your feet go over your head”と定義されていました。さらに『ジーニアス英和辞典G4』（大修館書店）でも確認してみると、「裏返し、（体操などの）とんぼ返り」と記載があり、“back flip”で「宙返り、バク転」を表しています。
ちなみに、The Japan Newsでは“back flip”の代わりに“backward handspring”という表現が用いられていました。(ninetails)
