spoil the party 復習
数日前の記事になりますが、国内総生産がまたもや縮小に転じたことが明らかになり、「アベノミクス」の終わりなのかと言われていたニュースからです。

But two things are now spoiling the party. First, the yen is suddenly getting stronger again. Second, Japan's corporations are stubbornly refusing to spend their windfalls.

"spoiling the party"に注目しました。自分では直訳して考え、「良い状況を駄目にする」と訳しましたが、別の記事で「水を差す」という訳になっているのを目にしました。
「水を差す」という表現を調べてみたところ幾つか見つかりました。"throw cold water on"や以前も取り上げられていた"rain on one's parade"にも同じニュアンスがあることがわかりました。今回の"spoil the party"も覚えておきたいです。(lua)
