put his needs second to others’

When Mr. Wichs’s brother, Daniel, took the microphone, he spoke quietly of an exemplary older brother, a “math genius” who was humble, and when asked how he was would only reply “with a shy and modest smile, ‘good, good.’ ” And yet he charged headlong into life with contagious happiness and enthusiasm, the brother said. “When Rebecca came into his life, she brought him the biggest happiness of all,” he added.

Mr. Wichs’s friend and colleague at Tower Research Capital, Ravi Sarma, described Mr. Wichs as an upright man who put his needs second to others’ and did not subscribe to the belief that success required the cutthroat behavior that is common to much of the financial world. His success came from his love of math and his ability to connect with others, Mr. Sarma said. Before bidding farewell to the man he called his best friend, he said, “He adored you, Rebecca.”

2つ目は“put his needs second to others’ ”です。

(bookmark)
