OSAKA (Jiji Press) — A 44-year-old nurse in Osaka Prefecture has given birth to a baby using her egg that was collected and cryopreserved when she was 41 and still unmarried, it was learned Tuesday.

It is believed to be the first publicly known case in Japan in which a healthy woman has delivered a baby using a frozen, preserved egg, informed sources said.

Previously, women undergoing cancer treatment or having other medical problems have used the method to give birth to babies, according to the sources.
