graftというと「接ぎ木」という意味が想起されますが，今回のように「収賄[汚職](による不正利益)」という意味もあります（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。英英辞書にもthe practice of obtaining money or advantage by the dishonest use of influence or power (especially American English)とあり，この「賄賂」という意味はアメリカ英語で用いられる傾向にあるようですね（LDOCE）。ちなみに同辞書にはhard work (informal especially British English)とも載っていました。イギリス英語では全く異なる意味で用いられることもあるのですね。（Koyamamoto）

Amari to offer accounts about graft allegation on Thurs.
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Economic and Fiscal Policy Minister Akira Amari will hold a news conference Thursday and offer a full explanation about allegations that he took cash for favors, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Tuesday.
"I believe he will give a full explanation" about the allegations, detailed last Thursday by the weekly magazine Shukan Bunshun, the top government spokesman said at a news conference.
