本日は記事より、"life-sized"を拾います。手持ちの『Wisdom英和辞典 第三版』によると、"life-size(d)"で「［通例 名 の前で］実物大の、等身大の＜像・絵など＞: 原寸大の」の意味になります。Oxford Dictionaries On-lineには"Of the same size as the person or thing represented"と定義されています。
これまで、"life"は「生命」や「人生」の意味で馴染みが深かったため、今回の記事で使われた"life"の意味には違和感を感じ、同辞書で調べてみました。すると、"life"には「本物、等身大の姿; 実物」の意味があることがわかりました（a portrait painted from life 本人を見て描いた肖像画 『Wisdom英和辞典』）。（Dew）
