イギリスの地下鉄駅で5日に発生した刃物を持った男が3人を負傷させる事件が起きました。The Telegraphの記事から事件の詳細とその悲惨さを伺い知ることができます。
attendというと「〈会議・儀式・裁判など〉に出席する」という意味がすぐに想起されますが,その他に「〈患者など〉を診る,看病[治療, 世話]する」という意味があります(『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館)。ここでは「怪我人を治療するために」解釈できます。(Koyamamoto)

Knifeman screams 'this is for Syria' in Leytonstone tube 'machete' attack
Tube station 'machete' attack sees up to three injured as reports say a man was Tasered after slashing someone's throat, police are treating it as a terrorist incident
A knifeman launched a terrorist attack on the London Underground seriously injuring one man and wounding two other people, as he screamed "this is for Syria".
Scotland Yard declared they were treating the attack, which happened on Saturday at Leytonstone station, east London, as "a terrorist incident".
…As they approach him he lashes out with his knife and appears to slash one of them in the neck area, it is reported.
Moments later a uniformed police officer arrives on the scene and fires his Taser at the man.
Ambulance crews received the called at 7.09pm and rushed to the scene to attend the injured.
In another video of the incident posted online, the man is pinned down on the floor by two police officers as another man can be heard shouting out to him: "You aint no Muslim bruv."
