中国と幽霊の関係が書かれております。中国では，幽霊をテーマとした映画が規制されることが多いようですが，その理由が考察されております。理由の一つとして，中国の文学や歴史は幽霊を腐敗した政府のメタファーとして用いているためとあります。幽霊に関するストーリーは政治的なツールとして誰もが活用でき，当局もこのツールをコントロールすることが難しいと書かれておりました。
記事の中で気になった単語は"visceral"です。『Wisdom英和辞典第三版』（三省堂）によると「内臓の; 腸の，〘かたく〙本能的な, 根底からの」などという意味がありました。ODには"Relating to deep inward feelings rather than to the intellect"と定義されております。ODをみると，「腸」を表す"gut"にも「直感，本能」などの用法があり，似ていると思いました。ODでは"Used in reference to a feeling or reaction based on an instinctive emotional response rather than considered thought"のように表現されております。（Ume）
Is China really scared of ghost films?
So when I moved to the West, it came as a surprise to me that there were major ghost films that were released in the UK but banned in China. I knew they couldn't be more visceral or terrifying than the plots I had seen back home, so I was determined to find out why.
Some reasons were obvious of course - sex is still taboo in China, as are extreme religious or spiritual themes, or content that strongly criticises Chinese culture, people or especially its government. But ghosts?
