12月ですね。この時期，米国では人々がクリスマスツリーの「爆買」（笑）に走ります。ちょうど日本で正月のお飾りを買い求めるのによく似ています。
New York Today: A Sidewalk Forest
Good morning on this misty Wednesday.
It’s December, which means that the city has spontaneously grown a forest of firs.
But it hasn’t always been so: In 1938, Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia passed a law that required a permit for all street vendors.
The catch? Permits were very difficult to get, leaving the city treeless until the City Council passed the “coniferous tree” exception, allowing the sale of Christmas trees without a permit in December.
We decided to meet some of these urban foresters.
Samuel Isabel, 20, and Alex Petit, 21, were huddled inside a hut outside a CVS on Sixth Avenue, between Washington Place and Waverly Place.
They came down from Quebec City last week to work for a New York company that sells trees from North Carolina.
