日本固有種「アユモドキ」が絶滅危惧種1A類に指定されました。体長１５ｃｍほどの淡水魚で京都府亀岡市周辺と岡山市周辺にしか生息していないそうです。

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has designated the ayumodoki, or kissing loach, which is indigenous to Japan, as a critically endangered species in the latest edition of its Red List of threatened wildlife.

Critically endangered species face the highest possibility of extinction.

The kissing loach belongs to the loach family but its appearance is similar to the ayu, or sweetfish.

The species has a 15-centimeter body length and inhabits freshwater such as rivers and rice paddies. Only about 800 fish exist around Kameoka, Kyoto Prefecture, and Okayama

『ジーニアス英和辞典第５版』（大修館書店）では「indigenous : 土着の、原産の」という意味がありました。toを補うことで「〈動植物・文化・習慣などが〉〔ある土地・国に〕固有の」となります。

nativeとの違いをLDOCEで確認してみると

“native : growing, living, produced etc in one particular place”

“indigenous : indigenous people or things have always been in the place where they are, rather than being brought there from somewhere else”

と定義されており、両者の意味合いにはあまり違いがないようです。（Chris）
