Yogi Berra, the Hall of Fame catcher renowned as much for his dizzying malapropisms as his record 10 World Series championships with the New York Yankees, has died. He was 90.
Berra died of natural causes Tuesday at his home in New Jersey, according to Dave Kaplan, the director of the Yogi Berra Museum.

今回取り上げるのは、“malapropism”という表現です。LDOCEで調べてみると、“an amusing mistake that you make when you use a word that sounds similar to the word you intended to say but means something completely different”という定義が見つかりました。また『ジーニアス英和辞典G4 大修館書店』には、「マラプロピズム、言葉のこっけいな誤用」という意味が載っていました。さらに調べてみると、「特に発音が多少似ている2語を混同させる語法」のことで、この語法を用いてヨギ氏は様々な名言を残しました。(ninetails)
