東京のJR目黒駅の前で、恒例の「目黒のさんま祭り」が行われ、岩手県宮古市で水揚げされた旬のさんま約7000匹が無料でふるまわれました。

Pacific saury brought from Miyako, Iwate Prefecture, are broiled on a huge charcoal grill in front of Meguro Station in Tokyo on Sunday, during the 20th annual Meguro Sanma Festival. On Thursday, the North Pacific Fisheries Commission agreed to help protect Pacific saury as catches of the fish in northern Pacific waters have been increasing in recent years. Another saury festival also marking its 20th year will be held at the Dendo Hiroba Koen park in Meguro Ward, Tokyo, on Sept. 20.

今回取り上げるのは、“Pacific saury”という表現です。『ジーニアス英和辞典G4 大修館書店』で調べてみると、「〔魚〕サンマ（秋刀魚）」という意味が載っていました。このさんま祭りのニュースを耳にすると、秋の訪れを感じることができ、とてもうれしいです。また、宮古市は震災の被災地域でもあるので、復興が進んでいることも実感できます。(ninetails)
