今回採り上げるurnは「骨つぼ」という意味（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。詩のモデルとなった大伯母は，戦争で夫を失くし，その遺体の行方すらわかりません。夫の骨つぼには小石（pebbles）が入っています。（Koyamamoto）

Teenager asks 'Is this peace?' in poem at Okinawa Memorial Day ceremony
ITOMAN, Okinawa Prefecture -- In a poem he wrote and recited at a service here commemorating those who died in the Battle of Okinawa, a local teenager likened the dementia of his grandfather's elderly sister with society's fading collective memory of the horrors of war.
Masaru Chinen, 17, a third-year student at Okinawa Prefectural Yokatsu Senior High School, recited his poem, "Miruku yo ga yayura" (Is this peace?), at an Okinawa Memorial Day ceremony at Peace Memorial Park on June 23. He expressed his desire to let neither his great aunt's memories nor the misery of war be forgotten.
Chinen's poem tells us that his great aunt, who has treated Chinen like her own grandson, lost her 22-year-old husband in the Battle of Okinawa 70 years ago. Because she never found out where he'd died and his remains were never recovered, all that was placed in her husband's urn were a few pebbles.
