8 die after liver surgery in Gunma / No approval from hospital ethics board
Eight patients died after having difficult liver operations at Gunma University Hospital from 2011 to 2014, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.
According to sources involved with the hospital, the eight patients in their 60s to 80s were among about 100 people who received laparoscopic liver resections at the hospital in Maebashi during the period. The operations were conducted by the hospital’s digestive surgery division.

問題になる「腹腔鏡」ですが、英語では何というのでしょうか。答えは本文で赤字になっているlaparoscopicに派生する前のlaparoscopy（『リーダーズ英和辞典』第３版、研究社）です。『英語語源辞典』を調べてみますと、「腹部の器具」と出て参りました。LDOCE5を調べてみますと、“a medical examination or operation in which a special tube is put into someone’s body through a small cut so that the organs inside can be seen”とありました。なるほど、この場合は自分自身の皮膚から管が通り、腹腔につけられるものだということが分かりました。(Kawada)
