Tokyo man accused of cycling high on 'dappo' drugs
A Tokyo man who was so stoned that he fell off his bike became the first bicyclist in Japan arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of "dappo" (law-evading) drugs, police said.
Yuta Hokari, 29, who lives in Tokyo's Taito Ward, is suspected of violating a Road Traffic Law article on acceptable driver conditions, police said Sept. 18.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Hokari had taken dappo drugs, which authorities now define as "dangerous drugs," before cycling on the street in the capital's Sumida Ward around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 16.
The suspect collapsed on a pedestrian walkway along the road and injured his neck. Police said they found in his possession packaged plant fragments that apparently were "law-evading herbs," or dried herbs sprayed with hallucinogenic chemicals.
