久しぶりのNew York Today。Kadawaくんが地下鉄（駅員 nerd）関連の記事をあげていましたが、これも地下鉄関連。
記事の冒頭に出てきたのがapple-crisp。「しゃっきとしたリンゴの月曜日」と直訳しても訳は分かりません。これは「〈空気・天気など〉身の引き締まる、すがすがしい」という天候を表すcrispに、さほど意味のないappleがくっついた言い回しです。とここまで推測して、それでも確信が持てなかったので、先ほど同僚の米国人（Peterだよ！）に確認をしてみました。彼によると実りの秋の代表格で、酸味のあるappleをひとかじりしてぶるっと来るような感覚をcrispとともに形容しているとのことでした。
apple-crisp...秋の到来を告げるいい表現ですね。（UG）
New York Today: The R Roars Back
Good morning on this apple-crisp Monday.
Subway riders have something to celebrate this morning: one more way to travel between Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The R train is crossing the East River once again.
Flooded and ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, the tunnel that carried the R under the river closed for repairs in August 2013. The detour forced tens of thousands of riders onto other lines.
Thirteen months and $250 million later, the repairs are done – a few weeks ahead of schedule and $58 million under budget.
