Well-traveled Kida to end long career
Former Yomiuri Giants and major league right-hander Masao Kida, currently pitching at 45 in an independent league, will close his career after this season, it was learned Friday.
Kida, who pitched for seven teams in Japan and the major leagues combined in a career spanning 28 years, has been playing this season for the Ishikawa Million Stars of the BC League.
Kida was the Giants’ No. 1 draft pick in 1987 out of Nichidai Meisei High School in Yamanashi Prefecture. Used both as a starter and out of the bullpen, he won a career-high 12 games and led the Central League in strikeouts with 182 in 1990.
