Akio Toyoda Is Latest to Try Bucket of Ice

Toyota Motor Corp.'s president, Akio Toyoda, is the latest to take the ice-bucket challenge after other celebrities in Japan such as Softbank Corp. Chief Executive Masayoshi Son and Nobel Prize winner Shinya Yamanaka.

Toyota posted a video of Mr. Toyoda taking the challenge and paying tribute to a former Toyota employee who suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. The ice-bucket challenge is aimed at promoting awareness of the disease, and those who dump a bucket of ice over their heads are supposed to nominate three further people to take the challenge.

Among Mr. Toyoda’s nominees was Toshiyuki Shiga, the vice chairman of Toyota rival Nissan Motor Co.
