第二次安部政権は、この秋に内閣改造に踏み切る方針で、首相としては石破幹事長を防衛大臣の席に据えたい模様です。grillは、すでにブログでも何度も取り上げられ手垢のついた感がある表現ですが、もう一度、取り上げます。
grillは、元々は調理器具の「焼き網」、レンジの「鉄板」という意味です。しかしながら当然のように比喩的な意味も発展し、『リーダーズ英和辞典』(第３版、研究社)には、「〈警察などが〉厳しく尋問する」とあり、またLDOCE5には、"to ask someone a lot of questions about something"とあります。
記事は臨時国会の「秋の陣」のことに言及していますので、「（野党は新閣僚を）厳しく追及する・質問攻めにするであろう」という意味で用いられています。(Kawada)
Abe ‘eyeing Ishiba for security minister’
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will likely appoint Shigeru Ishiba, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, to a new ministerial post in charge of national security in an upcoming reshuffle of his Cabinet and key party posts, according to sources.
In the reshuffle, which is scheduled to take place in the first week of September, Abe is expected to replace all top three LDP officials—Ishiba, Policy Research Council Chairwoman Sanae Takaichi and General Council Chairwoman Seiko Noda.
Meanwhile, he will likely keep three key Cabinet ministers in their current places—Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso, and Akira Amari, minister in charge of economic revitalization.
The Abe Cabinet adopted the government’s new interpretation of the Constitution that would enable limited exercise of the right of collective self-defense. The task now is to win broad public acceptance of the new interpretation.
As opposition parties will likely grill Cabinet members over the issue in an extraordinary Diet session this autumn, Abe has judged that Ishiba, who is an expert in security affairs, is suited for the new ministerial post.
