World's oldest camel dies at Yokohama zoo
A camel believed to be the world's oldest has died at a zoo in Yokohama. The female Bactrian camel, Tsugaru, was believed to be 38 years old, or about 120 in human years.
Staff at Nogeyama Zoo say Tsugaru lost her appetite on Friday morning after falling sick. She died during the night. Tsugaru was born on a farm in Aomori Prefecture. She was transferred to the zoo in 1982 where she became an instant hit.
People called her Tsugaru-san. A zoo attendant said he is sorry that Tsugaru died but that he is grateful for having known the animal. The zoo has set up a stand where visitors can lay flowers for the camel.
