Skier Sara Takanashi decides to go to college

Japanese ski jumper Sara Takanashi has decided to go to Nippon Sport Science University without graduating from high school.

Takanashi passed an examination to obtain a certificate equivalent to a high school diploma in August 2012.

At that time she was an international high school student in her native Hokkaido.

Takanashi, 17, also passed an entrance examination of the sports university in March this year. The university allows early admission to athletes who have done well at international sports events, such as the Olympics.

Takanashi finished 4th in the women's normal hill ski jumping event in February at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

She completed enrollment procedures at the university but put off deciding whether to enter the school even though classes began a month ago.

Sources say that Takanashi finally made the decision after she became confident she can strike a balance between her studies and sports.

Takanashi was the top skier at World Cup ski jumping events for 2 straight seasons.

She won a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships.

Websterによると、これは"to find a satisfactory compromise between two extremes"と定義されています。 (UG)
