ジョンソンリーフに土などを搬入し陸地を拡張しようしている中国の動きに対して，フィリピン外務省は南シナ海における（非公式の）行動規範に違反していると批判しました。
この陸地拡張の目的はどうやら滑走路の建設のようです。stripには「(布・紙・食べ物などの)細長い一片」という意味があり，そこから転じて「滑走路」という意味があります（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。同辞書によればairstripは「空港施設のない簡単なもの」とあり，まさに今回の「仮の滑走路」に適当だと思われます。（Koyamamoto）
