Obama’s Trip to Japan: A 3-Day Visit That Isn’t

Tokyo announced last week that U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Japan as a state guest, a formal arrangement that comes with lavish ceremonies and lots of photo ops. On Tuesday, it had more good news: Mr. Obama will stay for three days, not just two as earlier mentioned.

Mr. Obama will arrive in Tokyo next Wednesday and stay until Friday — a coup for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government, which had been pushing for a three-day visit for months.

Tokyo wanted to make the trip an occasion to emphasize the strength of the ties between the two countries at a time of growing regional tensions. It needed a minimum of three days to fit in all the formalities of a state visit. The visit is part of an East Asian tour, which will also take Mr. Obama to South Korea, the Philippines and Malaysia.

見出し（のサブタイトル）は途中で切れているような感じですが、これはおそらくは…That Isn't A 3-Day Visitの略でしょうか。さらにはAの後ろに、realもしくはsubstantialを入れてみるとより意味が通じると思います。
記事を読むと、これには「国賓」待遇との兼ね合いがあるようで、表向きには（国賓の条件を満たすために）３日ですが、実際には滞在２日半未満という背景があるようです。外務省と米国側との落としどころがこういう形になったようです。（GP）
