Masahiro Tanaka was able to put his early-inning trouble behind him in a dominant outing against the Cubs in a 3-0 win on Wednesday in the first game of a split doubleheader in The Bronx.
The right-hander overmatched Chicago’s feeble lineup, allowing just a bunt single to Junior Lake in the second inning until the seventh, when Anthony Rizzo bunted against the shift for another hit.
Tanaka struck out 10 in eight shutout innings and might have flirted with a no-hitter if not for instant replay.
