昨日UG先生からいただいた最後の記事です。松坂大輔のコーチの発言が問題視されました。記事の中に出てくる”racial slur”が今回の記事の問題です。WEBSTERでは「人種的侮蔑」という表現が出てきます。松坂選手の通訳者に対してコーチが”Chinaman”と発言したことが事の発端です。コーチの発言により松坂選手は思わぬところでスポットライトを浴びることになってしまいました。(Ume)
Dice-K in Unwanted Spotlight over Racial Slur

Daisuke Matsuzaka, the New York Mets pitcher trying to secure the fifth starter position with the team and regain some of the luster he once enjoyed as Japan’s best hurler to cross the Pacific, has found himself in an unwanted spotlight after his coach made a racial slur about Asians.

A Wall Street Journal reporter was in the Mets locker room Monday when pitching coach Dan Warthen apologized to Matsuzaka’s translator–Japanese-American Jeff Cutler–for calling him a “Chinaman” the day before.

After the Journal reporter Stu Woo, who is Chinese-American, raised the issue with the team, Warthen and Mets general manager Sandy Alderson issued a statement apologizing for the remark.
