しばらくUG先生からいただいた記事を使わせていただきます。1番目は鳴門海峡の観光シーズンに入ったという記事です。見出しにも出てくる” Whirlpool”は「プール」にとらわれてしまうと意味が分からなくなってしまいます。

辞書で調べると「渦，渦巻き」という意味があります（『Wisdom英和辞典（第三版）』（三省堂））。”whirl”には「回る，旋回する」という言葉ですのでそこから連想できる単語ですね。

ちなみに，”pool”の部分を”wind”に変えると「竜巻，つむじ風」になります。合わせて覚えます。（Ume）

Whirlpool-watching season begins in western Japan

The whirlpool-watching season has started in the Naruto Strait in western Japan.

The turbulent strait links the Pacific Ocean and the Seto Inland Sea. Whirlpools up to 30 meters across can be seen during the period of spring tides.

A festival was held on Sunday at Fukura Port in southern Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture, to celebrate the opening of the tourist season.
