Gov't laboratory mulls retracting groundbreaking stem cell paper
A Japanese government-affiliated laboratory is considering retracting a research paper on a trailblazing method to create stem cells that drew global attention, following one of the co-authors said it should be withdrawn until the creditability of data is confirmed, the laboratory suggested said Monday.
University of Yamanashi professor Teruhiko Wakayama told reporters earlier in the day, "It's better to retract it once and submit it again after making sure that data is all correct and it won't be criticized by anyone."
Questions have been raised about images used in the paper, written by a group led by Haruko Obokata at the Riken institute's Center for Developmental Biology, on a method the group named "stimulus-triggered acquisition of pluripotency" or STAP.

論文を「取り下げる、撤回する」はretract、もしくはwithdrawですね。ここのre-は「再び」の方ではなく、「後ろに、以前に」の意味を表し、「後ろに引く」で「（前言・約束・論考などを）取り消す、撤回する」の意味になります。（UG）
