この記事の中に出てくる”cement”が気になりました。「セメント」という名詞は日本でも使われる言葉ですが，動詞用法をWeblioで調べると「〈友情・団体などを〉固く結びつける，強固にする」という意味があります。Oxford dictionariesでは”settle or establish firmly”と書かれています。ここでは” A third gold in Sochi would cement his status”を「ソチで3度目のメダルを獲得すれば彼の地位を不動のものにするであろう」と訳せると思います。
“cement”の「強固にする」という意味や，”concrete”の「具体的な」などのように，名詞の意味から他の用法の意味を推測できると思いました。(Ume)
