political ruckus

(UG)

Disgraced Tokyo Governor To Return To Writing

Tokyo Gov. Naoki Inose’s political career may have been crushed by the money scandal that forced him to step down Thursday, but he clearly believes his literary career is still alive.

Reporters challenged the 67-year-old’s credibility as a non-fiction writer during a 40-minute news conference where Mr. Inose announced his resignation. But while he was apologetic for the political ruckus he caused by accepting money from a scandal-hit hospital chain, Mr. Inose argued he still had a life after politics as a man of letters.
“I’m very sorry and offer my sincere apologies to Tokyoites and the public,” he said. “From now on, I would like to keep a close eye on the city as a writer and as a citizen.”
