2020年東京オリンピックに関するthe Japan Newsの記事から英語表現を拾います。今回採り上げるのはcauldronという単語。辞書には「大釜」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）とありましたが，ここでのthe Olympic cauldronは言うまでもなく「聖火台」を表しています。同辞書にはThe Olympic Flame has been lighted.（聖火台に今，火がともった）という用例とともに「『聖火台』に相当する単語はない」という解説がありました。一方で『スーパーアンカー和英辞典』（学習研究社，第2版）には「聖火台」としてthe Olympic Flame-holderという表現が挙げられていました。「聖火台」に相当する表現としてthe Olympic cauldronも加えておこうと思います。（Koyamamoto）
