Today, Digital Journal observed a large number of fire trucks from multiple districts, cities and counties leaving Tuolumne County. Fire personnel on scene has retracted to 4,330 from the high of over 5,100.
It appears the worst of this fire is over, and the continuing process will be to obtain full containment and continue the mop-up operations in areas where re-ignition could cause concern.

今回は、mop-upの解説です。以前先輩も取り上げられていますので、そちらも参照していただければと思います。（cf. http://d.hatena.ne.jp/A30/20120124/1327375853）辞書で調べてみると、このmopには日本語にもなっている「モップ」や「柄付きのスポンジ」「…をモップで拭く」等の意味がありました。（『ウィズダム英和辞典　第３版』三省堂）mop upでは、「Aを始末する、掃討する」という意味を表します。（ibid）また、他の辞書にはmop-up operationで、「掃討作戦」と記載されていました。（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第４版』大修館書店）
次いで、Oxford Dictionary Onlineには、語源が次のように記載されていました。“late 15th century: perhaps ultimately related to Latin mappa 'napkin'”
