doleと言えば「施し（物）；分配（物）」（『ジーニアス英和辞典 第３版』大修館）が第一語義ですが、文中では英略式で「[通例the dole]失業手当[保釈金]」（ibid）の意味になります。同書の例文もチェックしてみますとbe [go] on the ~で「失業手当を受けている[受ける]」と記載されていました。余談ですが、dole queuesで「（（英略式））[the dole queues; 集合的に]失業者たち」（ibid）という意味になりますので、こちらも併せて覚えておこうと思います。(Shou-VR*)
