「前に置かれた」が原義のpremiseですが、文中のようにpremisesの場合は「(土地・付属物付きの)建物、構内、店舗」(『ジーニアス英和辞典 第3版』大修館)という意味になり、その他にも「前述の物件;家屋敷」(ibid)等の語義もあります。Oxford Dictionaries Onlineには’ a house or building, together with its land and outbuildings, occupied by a business or considered in an official context’と記述されていました。(Shou-VR*)
