The drunken YouTube remembrances, despondent tweets and memorial parties were not enough to save Potato Snack. The beloved quarter-century-old Japanese snack food officially went to the grave at the end of June when its maker, Izumi Seika Co., closed its candy division forever.
Fans have hoarded the snack and sold it for exorbitant prices online, similar to the reaction of many Americans in 2012 when news broke that Twinkies would be no more.
