belly flopとpancake

今回の事故は「胴体着陸」の失敗によるものですが，記事ではこの「胴体着陸」をbelly flopとpancakeの2種類で表現しています。belly flopは「腹打ちダイビング」，pancakeは「〈飛行機が〉平落とし着陸する」と辞書にはありました（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。この他にbelly-landという表現もあるので押さえておきましょう。（Koyamamoto）

A passenger jet was engulfed in flames after crash landing at San Francisco International airport, leaving two dead and dozens injured.
Witnesses described how Asiana Airlines Flight 214 from Seoul, South Korea "belly flopped" or "pancaked" as it touched down, and then "cartwheeled" down the runway.
San Francisco Fire Department said two people were reported killed and 180 injured. San Francisco General Hospital said it had received 10 patients in a critical condition, two of whom were children.
